Back Stories
This is “John Ford Slept Here 2”, a pastel painting from a trip to Monument Valley. It was after a rare rain, and I wanted to invoke the light streaming across the rugged landscape that director Ford captured in the many classic westerns he filmed here.
“Saints Preserve Us!”, a pastel painting of a curious structure we encountered near Chacon, NM. It was standing alone just off the road surrounded by overgrown grass, and it looked to be quite old. What is it exactly - a church, a cabin, a storage shed? New Mexico True.
“Villanueva Fixer” - This great old building is across the street from the general store in ‘downtown’ Villanueva, NM. I started this one in a workshop by Nancie King Mertz, a renowned pastel artist, and finished it in my home studio. I like how the tin roof came out!
